Seniors Legal and Support Service
Fraser Coast
The Seniors Legal and Support Service is a community service providing FREE legal advice
and support for seniors 60 years and over, who are experiencing or at risk of experiencing
abuse, mistreatment or financial exploitation. The service is funded by the Department
of Communities and five centres have been established around Queensland. They are located
in Brisbane, Cairns, Toowoomba, Townsville and the Fraser Coast.
The service delivers a multidisciplinary approach to the issue of abuse by teaming a social
worker and a solicitor together.
This model is proving to be a very effective way of supporting the clients who are often
very vulnerable at this time.
The service can provide information, advice and support including:–
- Short term counselling / advocacy
- Information on your legal rights
- Advice on, and preparation of, Enduring Power of Attorney documents
- Referrals to other support, legal and consumer services
- Community education
The Fraser Coast service is managed by the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre. For
further information, please telephone the Seniors Legal and Support Service
on 4124 68 63.

Joke
The firefighter answered the phone to hear Paddy in a panic.
"Quick, there's a fire! There's a fire!"
"Where is it?"
"At my place of course."
"I mean what's the location?"
"It's in the kitchen."
"But how do we get there?"
"Crikey. Haven't you got a fire engine?"

Seniors and Pensioners
Electricity Subsidy
A 15% increase to the state electricity subsidy was effective as 1 July 2009.
This means an extra $25 for eligible Queensland Seniors and Pensioners.

before it before need to apply for it through their energy supplier. You can apply
either in writing or over the phone for the deduction being made through the
electricity bill.
To qualify, applicants must be the registered customer of an electricity
retailer at the home address for which the rebate is claimed.
