SHADES OF GREY

Vol 13 No. 1 February 2008

  In this Issue:

Welcome To The First Edition Of Shades Of Grey 2008

The holiday season has passed and I hope it has left you with lots of happy memories.

Catching up at Christmas provides a wonderful opportunity to check up on developments in the lives of friends and families be they children/grand children or great grand children, to listen to their aspirations, celebrate their successes and console any disappointments or failures.

Perhaps the greatest success story of the season has been the change of weather patterns. What a delight to have wet days complete with puddles, flowing creeks, puddles and green grass. Best of all I love the noisy nights with intermittent rain on the iron roof, and frogs and water birds all telling their stories. For those who have suffered through flood damage I hope clean up and repairs have helped to restore your lives.

With our part of the world washed clean we can look forward to new developments, new ideas and new initiatives in 2008.

Barbara

Home And Community Care Services

COTA Queensland, Carers Queensland (CQ) and Queensland Aged & Disability Advocacy (QADA) have received funding to facilitate independent consumer consultation over three years to enhance consumer input into HACC planning.

These forums provide an opportunity for HACC clients and potential HACC clients to:

  • Enhance consumer input into HACC planning by providing confidential feedback about the adequacy of current HACC services
  • Access information about HACC, the services that are available within their local area, and their rights and responsibilities.

The facilitation of the consumer consultations has undergone continuous review to improve the processes taken to engage a cross section of HACC consumers and potential clients, and to obtain qualitative information through the focus groups. The ongoing development of the facilitation process will assist HACC to identify appropriate and good practice service that better meets the needs of HACC clients.

Each HACC region will be visited on an annual basis.

COTQ Queensland coordinates the process, collates the information and writes the Reports and the three organisations meet with the HACC unit on a regular basis.

In 2007 over six-hundred consumers and potential clients were consulted through over twenty forums about their local HACC services and their needs to enable them to live independently in the place of their choice.

The new instant translator arrived at the embassy. By way of a trial the office girl typed in "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak".
Then pressed "Russian".
In an instant, in Russian, up came "The vodka agrees but the meat smells bad."

Have Your Say

A draft to Code of Health Rights and Responsibilities has been compiled by the Health Quality & Complaints Commission. All Queenslanders are invited to comment. One of the objectives of this process is to foster greater accountability within health services.

Many of us have stories about health issues where we know the process could have gone more smoothly or where we were left feeling that we had not been treated as well as we should have been.

The draft Code is part of the process of consultation between the Health Quality & Complaints Commission and all users of health services be they private or public, hospital, GP or any other health service provider. The Health Quality & Complaints Commission is an independent body established to oversee improvements in the quality of health services and to manage health complaints.

To order a free copy of the Draft phone 31205999 or 1800 077 308.
Fax 31205998

Your comments and feedback will be welcomed by HQCC and may have far reaching changes to your future health.

Consultation closes February 29 so don’t delay in 'Having Your Say'.

The senator prided himself on having a wonderful memory for faces. He proceeded around the room shaking hands and greeting would be voters. A quiet little man approached him, "You don't remember me Senator, back in the seventies I made your shirts."
"Major Shurtz!", the Senator boomed. "I'd recognize you anywhere!"
