CHRISTMAS DINNER

For the sixteenth time, the good people at the Door of Hope will be providing a free Christmas dinner for those who might otherwise have a very lonely day.

The dinner will be held on Christmas Day at 12.30pm in the Door of Hope, corner of Kent and Alfred Streets, Maryborough. Once again everyone who comes will be treated to a tasty Christmas dinner, pudding and a present. All of the food and presents are donated by members and friends of the church.

The Christmas Dinner starts at 12.30pm on Christmas Day and is free to anyone who wants to come.

Bookings can be made by phoning the Door of Hope on 4121 6822 or you can even book online at www.doorofhope.org.au.

person sleeping

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, please no bags
And please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, please no gray
And as for my belly, please take it away.
Please keep me healthy, please keep me young
And thank you Dear Lord for all you've done.

Five tips for a woman

  1. It is important that a man helps you around the house and has a job.
  2. It is important that a man makes you laugh.
  3. It is important to find a man you can count on and doesn't lie to you.
  4. It is important that a man loves you and spoils you.
  5. It is important that these four men don't know each other.

Becoming a grandmother is wonderful. One moment you're just a mother. The next you are all-wise and prehistoric.

Christmas Wishes

To all our readers and listeners, the Maryborough & District Committee on the Ageing Inc send their warmest good wishes in the hope that Christmas will be a special time and love and joy for you. Look for your next edition of Shades of Grey early in February 2008.

Christmas is usually a challenge that comes on the form of too much food and too little exercise.

Santa

Take Santa's example and give yourself a good workout for Christmas so that you can face the New Year in fine form. Keep Moving.

Blessings, love and peace

Barbara

GOODWILL TOWARD MEN

We ask therefore that we may be worthy of our power and responsibility, that we may exercise our strength with wisdom and restraint and that we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of 'peace on earth and goodwill towards men'. That must always be our goal and the righteousness of our cause must always underlie our strength.

John F. Kennedy

The Nativity Play

One evening a week before Christmas,
The old village hall's all alight.
It's crowded with mums, dads and grannies -
The Sunday School play's on tonight.

Backstage it's all noise and confusion,
The teachers are tearing their hair -
The doll that's to be Baby Jesus
Is not to be found anywhere!

The children are shrill with excitement,
And Gabriel's broken a wing,
The vicar's wife comes to the rescue
And ties it together with string.

At long last the curtain is rising
(It's only a half hour late)
The audience gasps at the tableau
And thinks it was well worth the wait.

There are angels with haloes of tinsel
And Wise Men in blue, green, red
And an over-abundance of shepherds,
With teatowels over their heads.

They sing all the carols so sweetly:
There' not a dry eye in the hall,
And though Joseph has to be prompted,
It just doesn't matter at all.

At the end the applause will be thunderous
And every fond parent will know
Their own little shepherd or angel
Was clearly the star of the show.

Arabella Blake.

Grandad

Grandchildren don't stay young forever, which is good because Grandfathers have only so many horsey rides in them.

FAMILY TRADITIONS

One of the traditions in my family is to drive around the parking lot until we see a shopper emerge from the mall. Then we follow her in much the same spirit as the three wise men, who 2,000 years ago, followed a star, week after week until it led them to a parking space.

Car

Parrot

Young Johnny was sitting on a park bench eating chocolate bars. A man sitting opposite watched him finish six of them off in 10 minutes.
The man said: "Eating that many chocolate bars is bad for you."
Johnny replied: "My Grandad lived to be 105."
"Did he eat lots of chocolate bars at once?" asked the man.
"No," said Johnny. "He minded his own business."

When old Jones the shearer moved into the retirement village he was forced into parting with his parrot so gave it to old Father Joe.
Father Joe put up with the bird's cursing and swearing for a few days and was so embarrassed that he decided the only solution was to give the bird a quick and painless flight into the afterlife.
Mrs. Murphy came to the rescue of the disgraceful offender because her parrot was "so holy that she prayed all day" and could only be a good feathered influence.
The curser was put into the cage with the prayerful one.
"Hi ### Gorgeous, feel like a bit of ### loving?"he screeched.
She fluffed her feathers,"I've been praying for a Christmas present like you all year!"

Always keep your words soft and sweet - just in case you have to eat them.

Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

A truly happy person is the one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
