man and dog

The two priests were friends and both devoted dog owners.

They decided to have a fishing day together and decided that they would each take their dog and a pannikin of bait.

They cast the little boat off and fished and fished until all the bait was used but no fish caught.

Priest number one whispered in his dog’s ear whereupon the dog took the empty pannikin in his teeth and jumped into the water, swam to shore, dug up some worms, filled the pannikin, took it in his teeth and swam back to the boat.

Not to be outdone, Priest number two whispered in his dog’s ear, whereupon the dog took up a pannikin, jumped overboard and walked upon the water to the shore, dug up the worms and brought a pannikinful back across the water to the boat.

The two men were very quiet. Eventually priest number two asked "Did you notice anything about my dog?"
"Yes" answered priest number one "he can’t swim!"

coupel dancing

Judge Christie leaned forward and said, "Are you trying to tell this court that the defendant actually strangled his wife in a disco, in front of three hundred people?"
"Yes, sir."
"But didn't anyone try to stop him?"
"No, sir. Everyone thought they were dancing."

HOW FALL-SAFE IS YOUR BATHROOM?

Wet areas are more likely to be slippery and therefore hazardous. Take extra care.

Non-slip flooring is recommended for bathroom and shower areas.

Avoid using talcum powder as this makes the floor slippery.

Paint-on or self adhesive nonslip-strips are advisable in shower and bath. These are available from most hardware stores.

Handrails are recommended in all positions around the bath and toilet, where you need something to hold onto. It is not safe to hold onto taps. Contact an Occupational Therapist if you think you need handrails, other bathroom modification or equipment.

END OF AN ERA

Gilbert and Florence Alison
Mr. Gilbert Alison has been president of the Maryborough & District Committee on the Ageing Inc. since its inception in 1972. Meritorious is a description of his service to this cause that falls short of the true input he has had over the 35 years of his presidency. His vision, understanding and devotion to management has seen the committee perform its service to this community with efficient zeal.

At the recent Annual General Meeting, Gilbert did not accept nomination for President but continues as a member of MaD COTA. His wife, Florence, has always been a powerful backstop for Gilbert and I'm sure she will continue to do this in the future. The members of MaD COTA and Management Committees wish them both well for the future.

The position of President has been filled by Brian Hodges and we all look forward to continuing a happy working relationship with Brian and his wife, Bev.

GOOD USE BEING MADE OF MENTAL HEALTH FUNDING INITIATIVE

The Mental Health Council of Australia has released a report into Medicare's new psychological treatment scheme.

The new Medicare Benefit Schedule program, which aims to increase access to GPs, psychologists and health professionals for those living with a mental illness came into force last November. However within the first six months of the scheme, the MHCA has discovered there has been a remarkable uptake of the scheme, with more than 700,000 services charged to Medicare in the first six months. Women aged between 25-50 were the greatest beneficiaries of these new measures. Of the $78-million spent on rebates, $52-million went to women.

While the federal Government has budgeted $538 million in funding over five years for the additional Medicare costs, the MHCA is now predicting the plan will end up costing $1 billion, if demand continues at the current rate.

GOOD NEWS

Patients no longer have to travel outside the district to access orthopaedic services. Both public and private orthopaedic specialists are operating in the Fraser Coast Health Service District.

As Pat started up the ladder again, along came Mick. "Why are you putting up that ridiculous sign?"
"What"s wrong with it", bridled Pat.
"You don"t have to put up a sign, Pat. You can smell your fish a mile away!"
"Oi! You"ve got a good head for business, Mick."

And Pat put up no sign at all.

Red Rose

In the language of flowers, the yellow rose means friendship, the red rose means love, and the orchid means business.

A chrysanthemum by any other name would be much easier to spell.
