Emergency Initiative

Following the disaster in London, East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign.

The idea is that you store the word 'ICE' in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted 'In Case of Emergency'. In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it.

The careful balance between silence and words, withdrawal and involvement, distance and closeness, solitude and community forms a good basis for a wonderful shared life.

Stay Active, Stay Independent

Stay in your feet

It's never too late to be active - try something new

If you haven't exercised for years, start off slowly and carefully.

Increase your level of activity very gradually.

If all the good people were clever,
And all clever people were good,
The world would be nicer than ever
We thought that it possibly could.
But somehow, 'tis seldom or never
The two hit it off as they should;
The good are so harsh to the clever,
The clever so rude to the good.

Elizabeth Wordsworth

Laughter

At the waterside bar the young fisherman was describing the crayfish he had pulled to the surface.
"It was a metre long," he said.
His listeners were amazed. "Well, where is it?" they asked.
"Oh, it busted the top of the pot and got away," he said.
An old salt who had been leaning on the bar during this revelation said "I was fishing and my line hooked onto an old ship's lantern on Shipwreck Reef. When I hauled it up the lantern was still burning."
The young man eyed the old salt with suspicion. "Fair go mate, you don't expect us to believe that."
"Well," said the old man, "if you chop half a metre off your crayfish, I will blow the bloomin' candle out!"

A white horse ambles into a bar and orders a beer.
"Funny thing," says the barman, "we've got a whisky named after you."
"What?" responds the horse. "Timmy."

A farmer who had an abiding fear of dentists asked his neighbour what the new bloke was like. "Did that new dentist stop the pain in your tooth?" he asked.
"Well put it this way," said his mate. "You remember last week when I stepped on that rake, got cracked on the head by the handle, fell backwards, and sat on that rabbit trap?"
"Yeah."
"Well that was the first time since I visited that new dentist that the pain in my jaw didn't bother me."

The RoadTek bridge crew is improving the safety for pedestrians and cyclists on one of the world's first reinforced concrete girder bridges built in 1896. Remember, there will be some full bridge closures around September when cranes will place the concrete walkway onto the framing. This will be done from 9pm to early morning. After the walkway/bikeway is finished the bridge will get an asphalt overlay which will go right along Ferry Street to Walker Street.
