GENESCoding Life, Death, Health & Disease Genetic research is extremely complicated and costly. Just to give an example, one human body contains around 100 trillion cells and all of these (except blood cells) contain the entire human genome - all the genetic information necessary to build a human being. Inside the nucleus of each cell, 6 feet of DNA are packaged into 23 pairs of chromosomes - this would reach the moon and back 8000 times! However, through sophisticated technology and unwavering dedication, QIMR scientists are unlocking the mystery of genetic predisposition to disease and the result will be better health for all. |
